Yoga / Meditation Retreats on the Red Sea

Q: What is the difference between a Yoga / Meditation Retreat and a Yoga Holiday?

A: Yoga holidays in contrast are more for people who want a holiday where they do yoga. So often on the holidays people say they would like to learn more than just the asanas, which is why we have decided to organise the retreats.

"There is a great mis-conception in the West as to what yoga really is. Most people will tell you it is a form of exercise. This is true BUT! there is a whole lot more to yoga than just the asanas (postures). These are what my teacher called the baby class of yoga.

Yoga is a complete way of life, addressing how you live your life on a daily basis. People tell me all the time they practise Hatha yoga. Another mis-conception. All asana and pranayama practise is Hatha yoga. What differs is the style but it is all Hatha yoga."......... Barbara Gordon

There are the five proper ways of living in the Sivananda System:

Proper Thinking
Proper Eating
Proper Excercise
Proper Rest
Proper Actions

On the Sunra Yoga Retreats we will be looking into these many aspects of yoga.

You will not just be practicing asanas (yoga postures), you will also be learning about pranayama (yoga breathing) meditation, chakras, healing, chanting and diet, plus we will be looking at yoga philosophy.

We will be learning the benefits and why we practice yoga; thus giving you a real overview of this ancient pragmatic and magical science.

Barbara has been practising yoga for over 40 years.  Initially training with Swami Vishnudevananda, a direct deciple of Sivananda, she went on to study with many great masters; Swami Satchitananda, Swami Venkateshananda, Sogyal Rimpoche, Krishnamurti, and Baba Ram Das, to name but a few.

Her current teacher is Guruji Mohan, an enlightened master and healer extraordinaire, whom she met in Rhajastan where he is based, six years ago, when invited to teach on an Indian colleague’s teacher training in India. She goes to visit Guruij every year for further training and inspiration.

She has studied and practised many forms of Hatha Yoga including, Sivananda, Iyengar, Ashtanga, plus Buddhist and Hindu Meditation. One of her great loves is Bhajan, (Sanskrit Chanting).

Location

The retreats take place at Nakhil Inn at the edge of Tarabeen, one of Sinai's oldest tourist resorts, with the usual restaurants and bazaars. It’s within a short journey to St Catherine's Monastery and Mount Sinai.

Duna is close by too, with some of the most beautiful and rare sand dunes of the Sinai, hence the name Duna.

Nakhil Inn hosts its own private soft sand beach, with stunning views of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf of Aquaba.

Accommodation

Comfortable large rooms, all with a/c, en-suite shower, toilet and terrace or balcony.  It is peaceful and quiet and somewhere to really get away from it all. See www.nakhil-inn.com

To aid your relaxation massage will always be available throughout.
Refelexology and Reiki may also be available (subject to avaiability).

There will be excursions to -
Wadi Melahas, where we also experience a yoga class in the Sinai desert
The big sand dunes of the National Park

Lunch at Castle Zaman -
Castle Zaman is the incredible folly of an Egyptian architect. Seven years in the making, he built the castle in the old way of dry stone walls, using rocks from the nearby areas. You will go there for lunch, hang out by the infinity pool and do your evening yoga class there!
