Sunra has been running yoga holidays and retreats for 30 years. We were one of the first to do so from Britain, therefore we have an abundance of experience in what people are looking for from a yoga holiday. Holidays obviously vary slightly from location to location but the schedule is almost always the same.
There are two yoga classes per day, with a morning class only on your last day, totaling 11 classes per one week holiday. You’ll have one free day in the week to visit places of interest or completely chill out.
These holidays give newcomers to yoga a chance to try yoga and see if you like it, or for people already practicing to develop to a higher and deeper level. Either way people get a great deal out of it, both physically and mentally. Most people come to chill and that is almost always achieved. People have been known to come for a one week holiday and dramatically change their life style on their return home. It must always be remembered that the practice of yoga is NOT just about the body. It has a deep effect on the mind in a very positive way. We have a highly qualified team of professionals to take care of you.
Classes are based on Sivananda style which is soft gentle and meditative, not only focusing on breath and stretching but a good workout for the body at the same time. Each Sivananda class incorporates Asanas (postures to give strength and flexibility to the body), Meditation to calm and focus the mind and Pranayama (breathing excercises). They give energy, revitalize and de-toxify, clean the lungs as nothing else can and strengthen the heart. We often introduce more active yoga, such as Astanga, Vinyasa Flow and Iyengar, depending on who is teaching on that particular week.
There is always plenty time for sun bathing, swimming, shopping and exploring your surroundings,
Apart from the yoga, massage treatments are always available - yoga and massage are extremely complimentary to each other. Other treatments are sometimes available: eg Reiki, Reflexology and various kinds of massage, subject to whichever practitioners are available at any given time.
More and more people are practicing yoga nowadays - even the medical profession recommend it for stress, anxiety and many other ailments so common in the western world.
Give it a try and see for yourself. Everyone and anyone, no matter your state of fitness or health, can benefit from it!
